On Tuesday, two unidentified media members were overheard sharing jokes over a live microphone, discussing the hypothetical scenario of former President Donald Trump being targeted by an assassin. The incident occurred as they awaited Trump’s appearance at the federal courthouse in Washington.
The journalists, both men, had positioned their news cameras outside the E. Barrett Prettyman US Courthouse. During their conversation, they expressed frustration about the challenges of obtaining a clear view of the 77-year-old 2024 Republican fr ont-runner. The remarks made over the hot mic raised concerns due to the sensitive nature of the topic involving violence against a public figure, especially a former president.
“You know what the worst part is? Even if he has his window open and he’s hanging out of it, he will be on the other side of the street,” the person is heard saying.
“I mean, if he’s driving, we’ve got a good shot,” anther journalist said, prompting a response; “Yeah, if he’s driving with the front window open.”
“Yeah, or if it’s a convertible,” the second person said.
“Yeah, I wasn’t thinking about that,” his colleague quipped.
“Yeah, like if he just pulls up —” the second started to say before the first interjected and asked: “Like JFK?”
“Maybe someone, just like they told JFK, ‘You know what you should do? You should take a convertible! It’s so nice out,’” the person said.
It’s unclear if law enforcement has launched an investigation into the comments.
