In an open letter regarding a shooting that injured him and his wife on Dec. 22, the Opelousas Police Chief Graig LeBlanc confessed to cheating on his wife Crystal.
LeBlanc and his wife had been shot outside the residence of Savannah Butler, 42. Butler is an Opelousas Police officer, as well.
Crystal LeBlanc is a police captain with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana. She had gone to the home to talk to her husband who was there and had knocked on the door. When Grig LeBlanc walked out, the married couple began to argue. Butler then approached the doorway with a firearm.
As Graig LeBlanc extended his arm to take the gun, he was shot in the hand. The bullet then hit Crystal in the arm after leaving out through her husband’s hand.
On. Jan. 1, Butler surrendered to authorities and was later released on a $22,000 bond.
In a statement, Graig LeBlanc acknowledged his role in the occurrence, citing that he has failed the public, his department, and most importantly, his wife with his infidelity.
“I want to express my sincere apologies to my wife, my family, and all parties involved, and to each and every member of our community,” he said.
Captain LeBlanc and Officer Butler have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
