A Texan woman is facing federal charges for allegedly issuing threats to assassinate the judge presiding over the election fraud case involving former President Donald Trump, as well as a Democratic congresswoman earlier this month.

According to a criminal complaint filed on Friday, federal investigators contend that Abigail Jo Shry from Alvin, Texas, left a voicemail on August 5th, in which she threatened to kill U.S. District Judge Tanya S. Chutkan and Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX).

The complaint states that Shry, during an interview with Department of Homeland Security investigators, confessed to leaving the voicemail. The message reportedly began with the words, “Hey you stupid slave,” followed by a racial slur, and proceeded with threats to kill anyone who pursued actions against Trump. The list of individuals mentioned included Chutkan, Lee, “all Democrats in Washington D.C., and all people in the LGBTQ community,” as outlined by investigators.

At one point, Shry allegedly stated, “You are in our sights, we want to kill you.” She later added, “If Trump doesn’t get elected in 2024, we are coming to kill you, so tread lightly, b****.”

Chutkan, nominated by former President Barack Obama in 2014, was recently assigned to oversee the government’s case against Trump, accusing him of conspiring to defraud the United States in his endeavors to overturn the 2020 election. Lee, a prominent member of various committees in the U.S. House of Representatives, introduced articles of impeachment against Trump soon after the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

The charges against Shry encompass transmitting a threat to inflict harm on another person. This felony charge carries a potential maximum prison sentence of up to five years. While Shry acknowledged making the call during her interview, she denied any intentions to travel to Washington D.C. or Houston to act upon her statements, adding that concern would arise only if Sheila Jackson Lee were to visit Alvin.

On Monday, a federal judge in Texas ordered Shry to be held without bond during a preliminary detention hearing. The detention order from Magistrate Judge Sam S. Sheldon pointed out that Shry has been charged four times within the past year for similar misconduct. Among these instances, at least two resulted in convictions and 30-day incarcerations. Sheldon further noted that Shry was charged on July 11 with a misdemeanor for causing fear of imminent serious bodily injury and was on bond in that case when she allegedly made the threatening call to Chutkan’s office in D.C.
