The investigation into the person responsible for leaving cocaine inside the White House remains unresolved — and the case is closed.
Despite a thorough examination of the drug and the baggie it was in, the Secret Service investigation concluded without any viable forensic or video evidence to pinpoint the culprit, multiple news outlets reported Thursday.
The discovery occurred on a Sunday evening earlier this month when a small plastic bag containing a powdered substance was located in a storage cubby at the entrance of West Executive Avenue. Advanced testing and analysis were conducted on the baggie at two federal laboratories, but no identifiable fingerprints or DNA were found, CNN and NBC News reported.
The storage cubbies in question are utilized by staff, contractors, military personnel, and certain visitors to deposit electronic devices and personal belongings that are prohibited in certain areas of the West Wing.
The area where the baggie was discovered is near the Situation Room, which is currently under construction.
“The investigation will not be able to single out a person of interest from the hundreds of individuals who passed through the vestibule where the cocaine was discovered,” the Secret Service said in a statement.
