Former soccer player turned ESPN analyst, Shaka Hislop, experienced a medical emergency during a live pre-match telecast Sunday.

Hislop, alongside co-host Dan Thomas, was on-air before the match between AC Milan and Real Madrid. During the live segment, viewers witnessed Hislop becoming unsteady on his feet, eventually losing balance and falling forward. Concerned, Thomas called out for assistance, stating, “We need some help.”

Following a commercial break, Thomas provided an update on Twitter, “Shaka is conscious. The medics are looking after him.”

At halftime of the game, Thomas returned on-air to offer another update. “As it stands, It’s good news,” he shared with viewers. “He’s conscious; he’s talking. I think he’s a little embarrassed about it all. He’s apologized profusely. [He’s] not a man who likes people to make a fuss of him. Obviously, [it’s] far too early to make any sort of diagnosis, but the important thing is that Shaka is conscious. And we spoke to his family as well, because you imagine seeing that happen live — there can’t be many more things that can scare you amongst the family.”

Thomas also said they had communicated with Hislop’s wife, and “things are looking OK.”

Shaka Hislop, 54, had a successful career as a goalkeeper, retiring from professional play in 2007 after an illustrious tenure from 1992.
