Brian David Mitchell abducted 14-year-old Elizabeth Ann Smart from her home in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was held captive by both him and his wife, Wanda Barzee, outside of Salt Lake and later in San Diego, California. Smart was repeatedly abused by Mitchell and even went out in public with him and his wife. Smart was discovered approximately 18 miles from her home. Brian David Mitchell was found guilty of kidnapping and transporting a minor across state lines with intent to engage in sexual activity in December 2020.
