17-year-old Madison Lewis, of Jacksboro, Texas, is fighting for her life at Parkland Hospital after being burned over 90 percent of her body during a holiday gathering.
Lewis and her friends had gathered around a burn barrel, two weeks ago, when a boy threw a pan full of gasoline into the barrel. It then exploded and went into the direction of Lewis. She was left severely and completely burned.
Lewis, a senior at Jacksboro High School, hasn’t been responsive since the incident and has had several operations over the holidays.
For now, Madison’s mother is driving back and forth from Jacksboro to Dallas and has gotten assistance from the Ronald McDonald House.
Madison is supposed to graduate in May, but her mother’s only wish is that she shows more improvement right now.
She has been taken off of her pain medication to determine if she will become responsive.
In addition to that, Madison had a successful operation on Tuesday and many more are expected to come.
