Suspect Caught in PA Murder That Was Recorded on Victim’s iPhone, DA Says

NORRISTOWN, Pa. — Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele, Bucks County District Attorney Matt Weintraub and Norristown Police Chief Derrick Wood announce the arrest of Eugene Ware, 41, of Philadelphia. The defendant was taken into custody this morning after a brief standoff at a residence in Sellersville in Bucks County.

Ware was being sought on First-Degree Murder, Person Not to Possess a Firearm and other charges related to the murder of Tyrone Guy in Norristown. Guy was murdered at approximately 10 p.m. on Nov. 21, 2022 on the 900 block of West Main Street. Norristown Police responded to shots fired and found the victim on the sidewalk suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his lower extremities. Guy later died at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. In processing the scene, Norristown detectives recovered three cellphones, including a black iPhone, later identified as belonging to the victim. The iPhone was actively video recording when officers found it. They stopped the recording and preserved the cellphone.

A joint investigation into the homicide by the Montgomery County Detective Bureau and the Norristown Police was launched. Detectives reviewed the video recording on Guy’s cellphone, which shows a confrontation between the victim and a black male, who was identified by Norristown detectives as Eugene “Roc” Ware. Ware appears to be concealing something behind his back, and after exchanging words with the victim, he swings at the cellphone knocking it to the ground. Then gunshots can be heard in the video. The investigation also found that the shooter’s black winter jacket, which has a distinctive red-and-white logo on the front, is part of a brand of clothing modeled and sold by Ware online through social media.

“We are pleased that this dangerous criminal who shot and killed a man walking down the street is now behind bars,” said Steele. “Thank you to the Central Bucks Special Response Team and Bucks County Detectives for their significant assist in getting Ware into custody while protecting the surrounding community, including safeguarding nearby schools with a protective lockdown.” Ware will be arraigned this afternoon and a preliminary hearing date will be set at that time. No bail is available for First-Degree Murder, and the defendant will be remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility
