The Martin County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene and Criminal Investigations team are at a beach along Hutchinson Island. It appears that the strong winds from Hurricane Nicole have unearthed the remains of multiple bodies.
The remains are believed to be from a Native American burial ground located in the same vicinity.
So far, the remains of six bodies have been unearthed by the storm.
“Detectives are working diligently to preserve and carefully remove the remains that are exposed with the utmost care and respect,” the Sheriff’s Office said. “Those remains will be transferred to the Medical Examiners Office then to the Bureau Archeological Research Department of State.”
