Police arrested two suspects and recovered two handguns—including one with a high-capacity drum magazine—following a domestic violence incident at Rainier Beach High School, which led to an evacuation and cancelled classes at the campus.
On December 13th, officers were dispatched to Rainier Beach High School after receiving information about a threat of a school shooting. Police helped evacuate the campus, and the school cancelled classes the following day.
Police learned the 17-year-old suspect in the incident—who is not a Seattle Public Schools student—was targeting at least one student at the school as part of ongoing domestic violence, and found evidence he and an associate were in possession of multiple firearms.
On December 15th, SPD SWAT and detectives tracked the suspect to a hotel in Auburn, Washington and arrested him, along with his associate, a 21-year-old man.
Investigators recovered ammunition, an extended magazine, a drum magazine, and two handguns.
Police booked the 21-year-old man—who is a convicted felon, and is currently the subject of a protection order—into the King County Jail for unlawful possession of a firearm.
Police booked the 17-year-old into the King County Children and Family Justice Center for felony domestic violence harassment.
