The prosecutor’s office announced that a Florida mother, Arya Singh, has pleaded guilty and received a 14-year prison sentence on Wednesday, nearly four years after her child’s lifeless body was discovered in an inlet in 2018.

Singh, 30, was found guilty of aggravated manslaughter of a child and abuse of a dead human body, as stated by the State Attorney’s Office for the 15th Judicial Circuit.

The incident took place on June 1, 2018, when investigators found the newborn, nicknamed “Baby June,” in Boynton Beach Inlet, Palm Beach County. It wasn’t until December of a later year that Singh was apprehended after DNA testing established a link between the child and a relative.

During the investigation, Singh said that she had been unaware of her pregnancy until giving birth on May 30, 2018. She claimed that the baby was already deceased when it was discarded in the inlet. Singh did not call 911 or seek assistance, as stated by the prosecutor’s office.
