BROCKTON, Mass. – A man has been arraigned in superior court on charges that he brutally murdered a married couple found bludgeoned to death in their Marshfield home, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.
Today, Christopher Keeley, 28, was arraigned in Brocton Superior Court on two counts of Murder in the deaths of Carl and Vicki Mattson, both 70 years-old. He pleaded not guilty to the charges and is currently being held without bail.
On November 26, 2022, Marshfield Police received a call from an acquaintance of Keeley’s requesting that a well-being check be performed on him at a home located at 75 Gotham Hill Drive. Officers found the home to be quiet with no motor vehicle in the driveway, and no sign of Keeley. Marshfield Police further contacted a family member of the Mattsons who told police Keeley had not lived at that residence for some time.
On November 29, 2022, at approximately 9:19 p.m., after a well-being check was requested of Carl and Vicki Mattson, Marshfield Police returned to the Gotham Hill address. Upon arrival, Marshfield Police officers discovered the bodies of the Mattsons with obvious signs that they were bludgeoned and stabbed. The couple were determined to be deceased on scene.
Marshfield Police contacted the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, and an investigation commenced. Detectives developed probable cause, identified Keeley as a person of interest in the double homicide, and a warrant for his arrest was issued.
Massachusetts State Police Commonwealth Fusion Center issued a BOLO alert for Keeley, and a 2019 black Jeep Wrangler. Investigators recovered and secured the Jeep in an Avon parking lot, unoccupied.
On December 2, 2022, Keeley was taken into custody in Miami Beach Florida for an unrelated incident. Working with Massachusetts State Police, authorities in Florida detained Keeley on the Massachusetts warrant for two counts of Murder. Keeley waived his right to rendition in Florida, and Massachusetts State Police returned him to Massachusetts on December 16, 2022.
Today, Keeley was additionally arraigned on one count each of Misuse of a Credit Card, Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, and Animal Cruelty, for killing the Mattson’s dog. He is next scheduled to appear in Plymouth Superior Court on June 29.
Assistant District Attorney Amanda Fowle is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by Massachusetts State Police and Marshfield Police.
