Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, appeared in federal court on Thursday and entered a plea of not guilty to nine tax-related charges. The arraignment took place in Los Angeles before U.S. District Judge Mark C. Scarsi, who was appointed by former President Donald Trump.
This legal proceeding occurred slightly over a month after Hunter Biden faced indictment in the Central District of California, accused of failing to fulfill his tax obligations. Prosecutors alleged that Biden utilized the unreported income for various personal expenses such as drugs, escorts, luxury hotels, rental properties, exotic cars, clothing, and other items, spanning from 2016 to October 2020.
The indictment was filed by David Weiss, who served as the U.S. attorney for Delaware and later designated as a special counsel by Attorney General Merrick Garland in August 2023. Weiss assumed the role after a plea agreement with Hunter Biden collapsed in July.
