FLORIDA – On Monday, Kassidy Sottilare, a 27-year-old former volunteer cheerleading coach at a high school in Palm Beach County, pleaded guilty to two felony charges related to sending explicit text messages to a 14-year-old student.
As part of a plea agreement, she admitted to acting as an authority figure and using a communication device to communicate with the student.
Sottilare was arrested in February 2022 by Boynton Beach police and sentenced by Circuit Judge Jeffrey Gillen to two concurrent five-year probations, including 18 months of wearing an ankle monitor and 100 hours of community service.
The incident was reported to the police by the 14-year-old victim and her mother.
According to the arrest report, Sottilare had sent a friend request to the student on Instagram, which was accepted. Afterward, Sottilare sent inappropriate messages to the student, including a statement saying she wanted to “spoil and [EXPLETIVE] with her.”
The police used the student’s Instagram account to pose as the victim and communicate with Sottilare.
