Armed masked gunmen stormed the premises of a public television channel in Ecuador Tuesday, disrupting a live broadcast and taking hostages.
The incident unfolded at the TC Television network set in the port city of Guayaquil. The armed men, concealing their faces, entered the studios and declared the presence of “bombs,” while waving guns.
Ecuador has recently experienced a wave of unrest, including explosions and the abduction of multiple police officers. These incidents occurred following the imposition of a state of emergency by the government, prompted by the escape of a formidable gang leader from prison.
