Connecticut State Troopers have identified Dana J. Hyde, a prominent D.C. lawyer who once served on the 9/11 Commission, as the woman who died after the business jet she was on suffered heavy turbulence over New England.
The incident occurred on Friday, leading to an emergency landing at Bradley International Airport north of Hartford.
Hyde, 55, who resided in Cabin John, Maryland, was rushed to Saint Francis Medical Center in Hartford but was declared dead upon arrival.
The FBI and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident, and her remains are with the Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The Bombardier executive jet was flying from Keene, New Hampshire, to Leesburg, Virginia, and owned by Conexon, a company based in Kansas City, Missouri, with five people on board.
The NTSB investigators are interviewing the two crew members and two surviving passengers to determine, among other things, whether they were wearing seat belts during the turbulence.
The cockpit voice and data recorders of the jet were sent to the NTSB headquarters for analysis.
According to her biography, Hyde served in the Obama and Clinton administrations and also worked in private practice. She was also a member of the commission that investigated the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks from 2002 to 2004.
