LOS ANGELES – A man was charged Wednesday for the death of his 5-year-old son earlier this week.
“The murder of a child is something that no decent society can ever tolerate,” Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said. “It is shocking to learn that a parent has allegedly inflicted this level of violence on a small helpless child. While we cannot undo this horrific tragedy, we will continue to hold those accountable who prey on the most vulnerable members of our community. The Bureau of Victim Services stands ready to aid the survivors of this tragedy in dealing with their trauma.”
Darwin Reyes, 32, was charged with one count each of murder and assault on a child causing death.
On July 25, police responded to a home in the 4000 block of Marathon Street and found 5-year-old Mason R. unconscious in a bathtub. The boy also had injuries to his face. Officers observed blood and vomit in the bedroom and bathroom.
He was taken to an area hospital where he died.
The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.
