‘Do Not Release The Dog With His Hands Up!’ Man Mauled By Police K9 After Ohio Pursuit

Police in Ohio utilized a K-9 against a man who had exited his vehicle with his hands raised following a pursuit earlier this month, according to officials.

The incident took place on July 4 after law enforcement officers engaged in a prolonged pursuit of a semi-tractor trailer driven by 23-year-old Jadarrius Rose. The vehicle lacked a mud flap and had evaded inspection, according to a report from the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP). Eventually, the vehicle came to a stop on a state highway approximately 40 miles south of Columbus after authorities employed tire deflation devices known as “stop sticks” for a second time.

A video provided by the highway patrol captured Rose standing in front of the vehicle with his hands raised while law enforcement officials ordered him to get on the ground.

Shortly thereafter, an officer with the Circleville Police Department released a police dog on Rose, despite a state trooper instructing the local officer not to do so.

“Do not release the dog – with his hands up,” the trooper can be heard shouting in the video.

The video shows the dog approaching Rose, who is now on his knees, and it appears to depict the canine biting and pulling the suspect. Rose screams loudly, pleading, “please get it off.”

“As troopers were attempting to gain compliance by providing verbal commands to the suspect, Circleville Police Department deployed their canine, which resulted in the suspect being bitten by the canine,” stated the highway patrol.

Circleville police did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Circleville Public Safety Director Douglas Debord informed local media that the city is currently reviewing the incident involving the police K9 unit.

The highway patrol reported that the suspect received first aid, and emergency medical personnel were called to assist. Rose was subsequently taken into custody, according to OSHP, which added that the case remains under investigation.
