DEVELOPING: Planes Collide Midair In Florida, Crash Into Lake Below

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — Two small planes collided in mid-air and crashed into Lake Hartridge on Tuesday, resulting in at leastone fatality, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office says.

The incident occurred at approximately 2 p.m., and the authorities have not confirmed the number of individuals aboard the planes.

Winter Haven police and fire departments have initiated a water and air search, with assistance from Polk County deputies and fire rescue.

The cause of the collision is currently unknown.
