In an effort to maintain financial stability leading up to the fall, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has made significant cuts to his campaign staff, reducing it by more than a third.
Since the beginning of the second quarter, DeSantis has laid off 38 individuals, as confirmed by his campaign Tuesday. Among those affected were 10 event staffers, whose departures had already been anticipated, along with two senior advisers, Dave Abrams and Tucker Obenshain. These former senior advisers are now spearheading an independent operation aimed at providing logistical and event support for DeSantis’ campaign, CBS News reported.
The staff reductions impacted various roles across the organization.
“Following a top-to-bottom review of our organization, we have taken additional, aggressive steps to streamline operations and put Ron DeSantis in the strongest position to win this primary and defeat Joe Biden,” Generra Peck, DeSantis’ campaign manager said. “Governor DeSantis is going to lead the Great American Comeback and we’re ready to hit the ground running as we head into an important month of the campaign.”
DeSantis currently ranks second in most early-state primary and national polls, trailing behind former President Donald Trump. Despite this, recent surveys have shown a decline in his standings. The campaign staff downsizing appears to be a strategic measure to ensure his campaign’s financial viability in the coming months.
