According to a report by NBC Bay Area, an incident occurred in Hawaii last month where a California man drowned while snorkeling with his wife during their honeymoon. As Good Samaritans attempted to save him, thieves took advantage of the situation and stole the couple’s car along with their personal belongings.
Steven Phan, 49, drowned in the waters off the island of Oahu on June 1.
Bystanders acted swiftly, bringing Phan to shore and administering CPR until paramedics arrived. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, Phan passed away later in the hospital.
While the rescue operation was unfolding, thieves stole the couple’s car, which contained their phones, wallets, money, and clothing.
A GoFundMe page explained, “On June 1st, 2023, tragedy struck the family and friends of Steven Phan. Steven and his wife Brittany were on their honeymoon in Hawaii. While snorkeling tragedy struck and Steven, Brittany’s husband of all but 3 months, drowned. As If this could not be worse, all of Brittany and Steven’s belongings were stolen, the thieves took their cell phones, wallets, money, clothing, they even stole their car rental.
The loss of Steven Phan is absolutely devasting to the Phan and Myers family and friends. We are all shocked, in disbelief, and heartbroken at the loss of such a great man as Steven. Steven always found a way to be a part of everyone’s lives, no matter the distance. Steven was a true friend and an amazing husband, Steven will be incredibly missed by all.
As the Phan and Myers family reel from this tragic and sudden loss, the last thing that they should be worried about is the financial burden. All donations will go directly to Brittany Myers Phan to help cover funeral and memorial costs and mitigate any unforeseen costs related to Steven’s passing and help support them in the coming months.”
