On Monday, former President Donald Trump and a number of his associates were officially indicted in Georgia. They stand accused of plotting to unlawfully overturn the outcome of the 2020 election, in which Trump faced defeat. This marks the fourth instance of criminal charges being brought against the former president, and it’s the second case to allege that he attempted to undermine the election results.
The indictment from the Fulton County grand jury against Trump is the result of a comprehensive two-year investigation. The probe was initiated due to a phone call that took place in January 2021. During the call, then-President Trump suggested to Georgia’s Republican secretary of state that he should help him “find 11,780 votes,” which was the number needed to reverse his narrow loss to Democratic candidate Joe Biden.
Among the individuals charged as co-conspirators in this indictment, which has just been made public, are Trump’s legal advisors Rudy Giuliani, John Eastman, Ken Chesebro, and Jeffrey Clark.
Additionally, Mark Meadows, the former Chief of Staff under Trump, is also facing charges in connection to these allegations.
