Alabama Police Officer Shot Multiple Times; Injured Suspect In Custody After Standoff

HOOVER, Ala. – On October 16, 2022 at approximately 11:25 the Hoover Police Department responded to a shooting call on I-459 north where a motorist reported multiple shots being fired at his vehicle. No one was injured in that shooting.

Officers were provided with suspect vehicle information and were able to locate a possible suspect in The Hills at Hoover apartment complex. As officers attempted to initiate contact with the suspect he produced a weapon and opened fire on officers. One Hoover Police officer was struck multiple times and sustained what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries. Hoover Police returned fire, and it is unknown if the suspect was struck.

The officer’s identity is being withheld pending the notification of his family, and the identity of the suspect is unknown at this time other than a black male believed to be in his 20’s-30’s.

The suspect was barricaded in an apartment in the 3600 building of The Hills at Hoover. He has since been taken into custody.
