The attorney representing Ashely Benefield, the former ballerina accused of murdering her husband, insisted the defendant shot her husband, Doug Benefield, in self-defense in accordance with the stand your ground law. Investigators say Ashley went to a neighbor’s house in September 2020 claiming Doug attacked her, so she shot him. The prosecution claims evidence indicates her husband was shot from behind.
