According to authorities, a daycare center in Brazil was invaded on Wednesday by a man carrying a hatchet. The attacker jumped over a wall and killed four children while injuring at least five others. The suspect, who had no connection to the center, turned himself in at a police station shortly after the incident.
The children who lost their lives were all between the ages of 5 and 7 years old. The Cantinho do Bom Pastor, a private daycare center that offers various educational services, was the location of the attack. Police in Blumenau, a city of approximately 366,000 people, are investigating the incident and searching for a motive.
Weeping parents were seen outside the daycare center, which is located near the Atlantic coast. The attack occurred on the center’s playground, according to Globo’s local television affiliate NSC. The suspect, who had a shaved head, was captured in a photo shown on the network. Police have not yet verified his identity.
