3 Marines Who Were Found Dead In A Car In North Carolina Died From Carbon Monoxide Poisoning, Police Say
Authorities have confirmed that the deaths of three Marine lance corporals, Lance Cpl. Tanner J. Kaltenberg (19) from Madison, Wisconsin, Lance Cpl. Merax C. Dockery (23) from Pottawatomie, Oklahoma, and Lance Cpl. Ivan R. Garcia (23) from Naples, Florida, were the result of carbon monoxide poisoning.
The unfortunate occurred at a Speedway gas station in Hampstead, North Carolina, located about 30 miles southwest of their base, Camp Lejeune.
An autopsy conducted on Wednesday confirmed the cause of their deaths. The Pender County Sheriff’s Office discovered the bodies of the three Marines in a vehicle at the gas station.
The sequence of events leading to the discovery began with deputies investigating a separate missing person case when they received a call from the mother of one of the Marines, expressing concern over his failure to arrive on a scheduled flight to Oklahoma. The mother had been in contact with her son’s unit supervisor, who informed her that someone was on the way to the Speedway gas station to search for the Marine. Eventually, the deputies received the news that the Marine and his two companions were found deceased inside the vehicle at the gas station.
The young men served as members of Combat Logistics Battalion 2, Combat Logistics Regiment 2, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, as stated by the Marine Corps.
