The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office announced that three 18-year-old individuals from Arvada, Joseph Koenig, Nicholas “Mitch” Karol-Chik, and Zachary Kwak, were arrested in their homes overnight in connection with rock-throwing attacks.
The suspects are facing charges of first-degree murder and extreme indifference for the death of Alexa Bartell, a 20-year-old woman who was driving in Jefferson County when a large landscaping rock was thrown at her car, resulting in her death, officials said.
Bartell was speaking with a friend on the phone at the time, and the friend was able to locate her after the phone went silent by tracking the device.
Bartell was found fatally injured in her car, which had driven off the road and into a field.
The suspects were believed to be in a moving vehicle when the rocks were thrown, and the vehicle used was a black 2016 Chevy Silverado.
The attacks included a series of vehicles that were hit by large landscaping rocks, and two other individuals were injured, but not fatally.
It is unclear which suspect(s) were driving during the spree, and additional charges are expected to be filed.
