Three individuals have been charged for a shooting outside of a Minneapolis Police Precinct, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Thursday.

Davion Gaines, 20, of Minneapolis, was charged with Riot in the Second Degree, Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, and Possession of a Machine Gun.

Troy Teasley, 29, of Saint Paul, was charged with Riot in the Second Degree and Fleeing a Peace Office in a Motor Vehicle.

Makeiyen Thompson, 21, of Minneapolis, was charged with Riot in the Second Degree and Reckless Discharge of a Firearm.

All three made their first appearances on Thursday, July 28.

According to the complaints, on July 26, gun shots were fired outside of the 4th Police Precinct in North Minneapolis. The shots hit the precinct and surrounding homes. Several officers were standing outside the precinct and were in squad vehicles in the precinct parking lot when the shots were fired.

Officers saw an individual who had been firing a weapon, later identified as Gaines, get into the passenger side of a vehicle that then fled the scene, the complaint continues. The officers began a pursuit of the vehicle. The vehicle eventually stopped, and Gaines continued to flee on foot. During the foot pursuit, Gaines disappeared behind the front passenger portion of another vehicle for a moment before reappearing with his hands above his head. Gaines was arrested and the officers observed a hidden handgun with an extended protrud ing magazine and small attachment to the rear slide, which allows the handgun to be fired in a fully automatic fashion.

The driver of the vehicle was later identified as Teasley. Thompson was discovered nearby, hiding from officers between a fence and house. Police discovered a handgun with an extended magazine five feet from Thompson.

“Reckless gun use will not be tolerated,” Freeman said. “Random shootings endanger the community and put innocent people at risk of injury and death. Individuals who engage in this dangerous behavior, near a police precinct no less, will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”
