WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -According to Polk County deputies, a 15-year-old student was arrested after a fight with his 14-year-old classmate at Westwood Middle School in Winter Haven resulted in a stabbing.
The suspect used a fixed-blade kitchen knife during the altercation and fled the scene.
The school went into lockdown while authorities searched for the suspect, who was eventually found at a relative’s home nearby.
The teen had thrown the knife behind a trailer, but he led deputies to its location where a paring knife was found.
The student who was stabbed was taken to a hospital, but the extent of their injuries is unknown.
“This is outrageous violent criminal behavior that we are not going to tolerate,” said Sheriff Grady Judd. “This student is facing some serious felony charges. I’m proud of the partnership we have with Polk County Public Schools and my deputies’ quick actions. Our prayers are with the victim and we are hoping for a fast recovery.”
