There is a new law that has been introduced to the country and an attempt to prevent young people from becoming addicted to apps.

Thus, children and teens in the state of Utah won’t be allowed to access social media without their parents consent. More restrictions may be in place, as well.

The two new laws would also stop minors under the age of 18 from using social media from 10:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. It would require social media users to verify their age and stop tech businesses from drawing in kids to their apps with addictive components.

Many companies like Google and Facebook have grown tremendously over the years. However, issues with privacy, hate speech, misinformation, and the harmful consequences on a teen’s mental health have been controversial.

Additionally, many companies such as Facebook, TikTok, and Snapchat profit mostly off of ensuring that advertisements have certain features to attract users. Now, they will have to modify these features so that they don’t advertise to juveniles and reveal them in search results.

What hasn’t been addressed is how the state will enforce the new law.
