Two fathers were arrested after a shootout transpired during a road-rage incident. It resulted in them wounding each other’s daughters.
On October 8th, around 6 p.m., a driver in a black Dodge Ram with 5 people inside and a driver in a gray Nissan Murano with 3 people inside were “speeding, driving erratically, and brake-checking each other,” according to investigators.
Witness described the interaction as a “cat and mouse game,” according to Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper.
“At some point during the encounter, the driver of the Dodge Ram got up alongside the Nissan and began shouting at the driver of the Nissan to pull over. The right front passenger of the Nissan put her hand out the window and flipped the other vehicle off with her middle finger. The Nissan driver, Allison, rolled his window down to shout back at the other driver, and a plastic water bottle was thrown from the Dodge Ram into the Nissan,” Leeper said.
“The driver of the Nissan then grabbed his Sig Saur 45-caliber automatic handgun and fired one shot at the other truck before driving away at a high rate of speed,” Leeper described the shooting.
The bullet hit a 5-year-old girl in her leg that was in the black Dodge Ram.
After the Nissan sped away the driver noticed his daughter was hit and followed after the vehicle. Once the driver in the Ram caught up to the Nissan, he pulled out a Glock 9mm semi-automatic handgun. He began firing with his left hand out the driver’s side window. A bullet hits the 14-year-old daughter of the driver in the Nissan in her back, causing a collapsed lung.
Moments after the 2nd child was shot the two men pulled over. They started to fight before authorities arrived and broke them up.
Fire and Rescue units also responded to the scene. They transported both girls to a local hospital with non-life-threatening wounds.
William Joseph Hale, 35, and Frank Gilliard Allison, 43, were arrested and taken into custody. They were both charged with one count each of attempted second-degree murder.
“Thankfully, no one was killed in this incident. But it could have been very easily turned out that way. Two people were acting stupid and let their tempers get the best of them. There could have been two dead kids because of two stupid grown men.” Leeper said.
