After searching, a young girl in South Carolina was found deceased. Now, deputies from the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office have charged the child’s half- brother with murder.
Just prior to 2:30 p.m., on Tuesday, 4-year-old Joanna Lockaby had been reported missing.
After police received a description of the child from relatives, they began to look for her.
Detectives discovered the girl’s body in a trash bin in a wooded location behind a residence a little while later.
William Micah Hester, 17, was apprehended in relation to Joanna’s death.
Detectives say that Hester is the child’s half-brother and is said to have suffocated her.
Reportedly, Hester’s father told investigators that his son would never murder anyone. He added that the 17-year-old has special needs and may need assistance filling out court documents.
No clear motive is known at this time. An autopsy will reveal more details into what happened to Joanna.
The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office said that the victim is also the sister of one-year-old Joe Lockaby. In 2018, he died after being left inside of a hot vehicle that was parked outside of his grandmother’s residence.
The boy’s grandmother, Janik Nix, was first charged with homicide by child abuse. Later, she pleaded guilty to assault and battery and was given 10 years in prison, suspended to probation for three years.
