Lauri Carelton, who owned two clothing stores in California, was fatally shot by a man who made negative remarks about a pride flag that was outside of her store.
The incident happened on Friday evening in Lake Arrowhead, California. Authorities say that the suspect shot Carelton because he didn’t approve of the rainbow flag outside of her business.
Carelton had been a top fashion designer in L.A. for many years. She owns the Mag.Pi store in Lake Arrowhead and one in Studio City.
Authorities say that after shooting Carelton and leaving her for dead, the suspect left the scene on foot. He was discovered about a mile away and was fatally shot by deputies.
As of now, it isn’t known if the killing of Carelton will be considered as a hate crime.
Lauri leaves behind a husband of 28 years and 9 children.
She was 66.
