After holding a woman hostage at knifepoint, 20-year-old Tzvi Asher Allswang was shot in the head by a deputy. After a short stay in the hospital, Allswang was arrested and placed in the Palm Beach County Jail, in Florida.
Just prior to 6:30 a.m., on Saturday, deputies conducted a welfare check at a home. Officers then heard a woman yelling. When they made entry into the residence, they witnessed the woman being held at knifepoint by the suspect.
Allswang refused to drop the knife when he was commanded to, so he was shot in the head by a deputy that feared for his safety, authorities say.
The 20-year-old victim was transported to a hospital in stable condition. Allswang was taken to another medical facility in critical condition. The officer who shot him has been placed on administrative leave.
Police say that the woman was and Allswang’s therapist who was helping him function in society. When she tried to leave the home, he wouldn’t allow her to. They added that they believe that the incident was premeditated.
“It was a night of hell for her,” a police spokesperson said.
Allswang is facing charges for attempted first-degree murder, kidnapping, and several counts of sexual assault.
He is set to appear in court on Thursday.
