Two correctional officers fatally shot two incarcerated individuals who had stabbed another inmate at a prison in Susanville, California.
Employees at High Desert State Prison acted at about 11 a.m. Tuesday subsequent to Anthony Aguilera being attacked by two inmates who had wielding makeshift weapons.
When the assailants wouldn’t listen to commands, officers let off a warning shot and chemical agents.
“Staff then fired additional rounds when the attacked continued,” a statement from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation noted.
Frank Nanez and Raul Cuen, the supposed attackers, were hit by bullets and died shortly after that.
68-year-old Aguilera was placed in the hospital in serious condition. He is serving a life sentence with the possibility of parole for attempted murder.
