Four teenagers have died, and two were wounded following a rollover crash involving a vehicle that had been reported stolen, on Monday morning, in Buffalo, New York.
They were said to have been taking part in a TikTok challenge that urged the stealing of cars. It is called the “Kia Challenge” and demonstrates to viewers how to hot-wire Kias and Hyudais.
Authorities say that six teens were in the vehicle when it slammed into a wall on Route 33, close to 6:45 a.m. Everyone had been ejected from the car, except the driver.
Marcus Webster, 19; Swanzey Swindle, 17; Kevin Payne 16; and Ahjanae Harper, 14, were named as the teens that lost their lives. Harper was a young mother who was set to celebrate her 15th birthday on Nov. 1.
A 14-year-old girl remains in the hospital although she was out of intensive care.
The 16-year-old driver faces charges of third-degree unauthorized use of a vehicle and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
He will appear in court again on Nov.15.
